Developed by Columbia University, University of Maryland and the Smithsonian Leafsnap is an interactive electronic field guide that will have your students identifying trees in no time.  Easy to use, open the app and snap a leaf from a tree. Based on the  leaf outline, the app makes a suggestion as to what type of tree this could be.

Opening Day

March, Womens’ History Month, comes to a close. As we start to say goodby to March isn’t it only appropriate that today is opening day of another exciting baseball season and the countless times “Take Me Out To the Ballgame” will be sung this year?  Why you ask?  Well, back in 1908 when Katie Casey’s beau asked her to go to a play, which he assumed a women would enjoy attending, she responded with “Take Me Out To The Ballgame”.

Teachable Moments

The way I see it, one of the biggest advantage of Makerspaces is that is provides an open ended space where students can design a solution to a real life teachable moment.  There is no way to anticipate what that teachable moment will be.  That is why Makerspaces are perfect.
