Promoting Deep Student Learning with Makerspaces

Day 1: Makerspaces 101
Learn how to design Makerspaces to promote students’ application of knowledge as inventors, creators and designers. Participants will receive a copy ofThe Kickstart Guide to Making GREAT Makerspaces (2017)and engage in a Skype Q&A with author Laura Fleming.

Day 2: Invention Literacy & Design Thinking with MaKey MaKey
Become a MaKey MaKey certified educator as you dive deeper into Makerspaces and Invention Literacy.

Cost: $125/day or $225 for two days
Registration fee includes CEUs, lunch, visitor parking and workshop materials as described above.

One graduate workshop credit hour is available for an additional fee of $162. Participants must attend both days to earn the credit hour.  Click here to register!

“Make”ing it Happen!  Makerspaces Explained Grades K-5
Full Day Workshop
Spend the day learning about the Maker Movement and how to create and incorporate a Makerspace in your classroom, library or other space.  Through a combination of hands on activities, discussion and resources participants will develop a plan for their own unique Makerspace that integrates with their teaching environment. 


Look for the STEM in your curriculum, not the curriculum for STEM. Grades K-4 &5-8
Full Day Workshop (can be customized for a longer more in depth district experience.)
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math occur fluidly and naturally within all disciplines, not separately. This hands on workshop will help you find the STEM in your curriculum. We will spend time reviewing available resources for the classroom. Full Day Workshop
The  Makey Makey Invention Literacy workshop is a fun hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to teach Invention Literacy, Making, and Design Thinking using the award winning Makey Makey invention kit. We’ll explore how to teach circuits, conductivity and coding using Makey Makeys.  Put your newly gained skills to the test and and design your own invention incorporating simple materials. Return back to the classroom with your new invention and a plethora of ideas for integration in your curriculum. Workshop INCLUDES a Makey Makey.


Meet Edison!  The little but mighty robot!  Grade 1-12
Full Day Workshop
Meet Edison the robot, a great addition to any classroom or makerspace. This unassuming robot can do a lot,  integrating well with lessons in coding, simple machines, robotics, and a resource for open ended inventions. Edison is designed to allow lego parts to be attached, which furthers its potential for inventions. Workshop includes an Edison Robot for your classroom. Option to purchase a classroom set of Edison Robots  is available as well.
